چکیده

Three-dimensional collapse of and steady flow through finite-length elastic tubes are studied numerically. The Navier-Stokes equations coupled with large, nonlinear deformation of the elastic wall are solved by using the finiteelement software, FIDAP. Three-dimensional solid elements are used for the elastic wall, allowing us to specify any wall thickness required. Plane-strain results for the cross-sectional shape of thinner-walled tubes are validated by comparison with published numerical data. Three-dimensional results for flow through finite-thickness tubes are in excellent agreement with published numerical results based on thin-shell elements, and are used to show the effects of varying wall thickness. Finally, the computational predictions are compared with experimental pressure–area relationships for thick-walled tubes. The simulations confirm a previously neglected experimental finding, that the Young wavespeed can be lower between buckling and osculation for thick tubes than for thinner ones. r 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Numerical Study on the Crushing Behavior of Square Tubes Under Three Dimensional Oblique Loading

This study aims to numerically investigate on the crashworthiness of thin-walled square tubes by consideration of 3-D oblique loading. In this type of loading, direction of loading is defined by using two spatial angles relative to the position of the tube. To this aim, finite element (FE) analysis is employed to simulate the loading for 8 different numerical models with different loading orien...

Steady finite-Reynolds-number flows in three-dimensional collapsible tubes

A fully-coupled, finite-element method is used to investigate the steady flow of a viscous fluid through a thin-walled, elastic tube mounted between two rigid tubes. The steady, three-dimensional, Navier–Stokes equations are solved simultaneously with the equations of geometrically-non-linear, Kirchhoff–Love shell theory. If the transmural (internal minus external) pressure acting on the tube i...

Axial Crushing Analysis of Sandwich Thin-walled Tubes using Experimental and Finite Element Simulation

Application of impact energy absorption systems in different industries is of special significance. Thin-walled tubes, due to their lightness, high energy absorption capacity, long crushing length and the high ratio of energy absorption to weight, have found ever-increasing application as one of the most effective energy absorption systems. In this research, through  carrying out experimental t...

Elastic analysis of Shrink-fitted Thick FGM Cylinders Based on Linear Plane Elasticity Theory

Nowadays, functionally graded materials (FGM) are widely used in many industrial, aerospace and military fields. On the other hand, the interest in the use of shrink-fitted assemblies is increasing for designing composite tubes, high-pressure vessels, rectors and tanks. Although extensive researches exist on thick-walled cylindrical shells, not many researches have been done on shrink-fitted th...
